God taught me a lesson about 1 Samuel 2:30 during the past winter vacation. “Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.”

There was a CCM Gatton Orientation Day in the last week of our Uni winter vacation. Since I was very shy and also afraid of speaking and interacting with strangers, helping out at the Orientation and telling people about God was a huge mental barrier to me. Therefore, I specifically organized a dairy placement on that week in order to escape. Nevertheless, just like the story of Jonah, when God wanted to use a man, He would never give up. So just before the winter break started, the manager of my dairy placement suddenly informed me that due to some mistakes, my placement had to be shifted a week earlier. This meant that I would be free on Orientation Day and I could not escape from it.

To be honest, I did not like this and for the whole holiday, I argued with God on how unsuitable I was to be used by Him. Yet in the end, God won. I surrendered my heart and agreed to go for the Orientation Day. A night before the event, my friends and I were at a friend’s place having dinner. During the dinner, my phone broke down; the screen became totally blackout, and I had no way to turn it on again. When that happened, I started pondering in my heart whether to head to Brisbane to fix it that night. However, my heart was not settled. I felt very frustrated and unsatisfied, because it had taken me so long just to overcome myself. I was very upset and not resigned to the incident. I did not want to surrender to reality.

In the end, I prayed to God and acknowledged how much I really wanted to glorify Him. I knew my phone was not necessary and I strongly desired to go to the Orientation Day. After coming back home from dinner, I thanked God because my phone worked again, and I went to help out at the Orientation Day the next day successfully!
