I first heard about our church’s fundraising initiative for the community and building project, “Build Unidus”, at the beginning of 2011, but at that point in time, I did not put much thought into it, as I felt that this fundraising initiative was something meant for others and not me. Furthermore, I asked myself, as an international student, how much could I possibly contribute to this project when most of the time I even found it tough to keep within my personal planned budget?

Things went on as it is for some time, and just the week before Unidus Pledge Sunday, God suddenly laid a burden upon my heart to pledge. I remembered taking time off to seek God, and He gave me an amount to pledge which was somewhat achievable after I did a rough calculation. Pledge Sunday came, and as I was about to fill up the pledge form, God challenged me once more and gave me a different figure, a figure I knew that I could not possibly achieve without His intervention. As hard as I struggled with it, I decided to obey and pledged the new sum. I did not know what God wanted to speak to me through this pledge, but I held on to His word and promises, as it is said in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Not long after I pledged that amount, God did the impossible and opened a door for me! He provided me with a part-time job in the best possible setting, and I was able to fulfil my pledge! Being part of the church staff, I was able to see the heart behind the entire development of Unidus, and God showed me that this hub was really made to lavish His love on His people. Now that Unidus Community Centre is built, my heart is warmed by seeing members of the surrounding community gathering at our campus for many different events. I realized that at that point in time, God was teaching me that He could use me with whatever little that I have, as long as I was willing. He showed me how the lives of the broken, the homeless and the less fortunate could be transformed because of this hub for the community. I personally believe that this is just the stepping stone for even greater things to happen! Hence, I want to urge each and every one of you to continue to sow into the Kingdom of God!
