Initially, I did not have any intention of joining any church/Christian community when I first came to Brisbane. I thought that I will continue doing what I have been doing which is just going to church every Sunday but God sure has a greater plan for me.
It’s kinda amazing how I ended up in QUT5 lifegroup actually. I remembered that many people from different life groups actually invited me to join theirs during O-Week. I rejected all the invitations for that week because my parents were supposed to come back from Sydney but their flight got canceled at the very last minute. When I heard the news, I decided to check it out with my Indonesian friend who was attending the lifegroup. I went mainly because of the free foods, and without the intention of being rooted or anything. After that, I have been going to life group ever since.
I am so thankful to have met inspiring people from and through life group that have impacted my spiritual journey. Hearing testimonies from different ones have really encouraged me to seek God more and to grow godly conviction.
One day, God spoke to me through a verse shared by two different people at different time. This verse is John 14:21 “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” In that very season, I felt that God was calling me to obey Him by not postponing my water baptism.
Before this, I had the thought of doing it in the Jordan River after I graduate university because I feel it will be more special if I were to be baptised, in where Jesus was baptised. But I just felt that God did not want me to postpone my declaration of faith. So, I decided to do it here in Brisbane. I am now proud to say that I have been water baptised and declared my faith.
Through my testimony, I would like to encourage those of you who have yet been water baptised to think and pray about it. I am closing my testimony with a verse from Acts 8:36 which says
As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”
