Recently, we experienced God’s love and His perfect timing during our visit to the Philippines.
Last Christmas, I almost lost my eldest brother in the Philippines because of a chronic illness. My brother is close to me, he financed my education and my desire was for him to know Christ. I have tried to share with him before but he always avoided the topic and he did not want to go to church. It was Christmas time when he was very sick, so unplanned travel during that period was expensive and not easy. So we asked God to prolong my brother’s life and for him to know Christ. God answered, while he was in intensive care, he improved and I managed to speak to him and when I asked him if Michael can pray for him on phone, he accepted the prayer. He improved even more and was released from the hospital to spend Christmas with his family. He was still undertreated, so in late February-early March this year, Michael and I travelled to the northern part of Philippines where I grew up, to visit my brother.
While Michael and I were there with my brother, we took him to his hospital treatments, we cared for him, prayed with him and really showed our love to him and also to his family. We noticed he was eager for prayer and we encouraged him to learn to pray for himself. He listened to Bible Readings of the gospels and the miracles that Jesus performed and these stirred his faith. During the Sunday of our first week, Michael was invited to preach in the local church where my niece and nephew received Christ as their Saviour! During the second week we started sharing the “Knowing God personally gospel tract” with my brother and before we had to leave him, Michael shared with him about giving his life to Jesus and he openly accepted Christ! All Glory to God!
While we were there, we heard that our close friend and sister in Christ was sick in the southern part of Philippines where I used to work and live. We then re-arranged our trip to visit her for two days. It was a long journey by air and land and in a region where there is a travel ban by the Australian government but we felt that we must see her as she took care of our family while we lived in the Philippines and whenever we needed help. She was battling cancer, and for the time we were there we prayed and prayed that God would heal her and we helped her with her medical needs as she was starting her cancer treatments. However, a few days after we flew back to Australia, the Lord took her home, she passed away.
Initially, we did not really anticipate this trip. But God had wonderful plans. This was made known to us, “People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care about them”. 1 Corinthians 13:2, “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing”.” We thank God for giving us the opportunity to see our dear friend and to show our care for her. We saw the hand of our loving God, His comfort and His timing are perfect. Blessed be His name!
