When I first came to Australia as an international student from Malaysia, I thought everything was going to be fun and easy. However, things did not go well, as I was not able to adapt to life here. The environment was new, the exchange rate was high, and I had no friends or family here to support me. I felt lonely, and I worry all the time. I tried to seek attention from people the wrong way by having a terrible attitude.

In November 2018, I finally reached my first emotional breakdown. I had 3 final papers in 2 days and also ended a 4-year relationship at the same time. It was an extremely tough time for me. I failed one of my courses and was forced to extend for one more semester. I truly felt that it was a life lesson God wanted me to learn. He stopped me from chasing the wind blindly by taking away everything I had placed before Him: boyfriend, results and money.

However, our God is a good good Father. Through all the battling, questioning, struggling and pain, what I experienced was His greatness and His love. I thank God that He gave my family strength and wisdom to walk through this journey with me. The prayers and companionship I received from friends around me, and what they spoke to me were all very timely. Through this, I had a deeper understanding of the characteristics of my Abba Father, and my relationship with Him got better. He transformed me to become a better person and gave me a whole new level of perspectives in life.

I learned to love God more, to place my identity in Him and not on worldly things. I learned to love my friends and family more and express my love to them. I learned that for every pain, there is a greater purpose behind. I learned to appreciate the things happening around me.

Because of His goodness, I can experience real peace and joy which no one could take away from me. As Jesus said in John 4:13-14, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

We are all created to be loved. Our Heavenly Father always loves us far more than we love ourselves, and there is no greater love than this. Although we ignore Him when we are satisfied with our lives, or question Him when we are facing problems, He is always there when we turn to Him. He is always patient, gentle and faithful.

2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.””
