I have been in this church since 2009 but never dared to step up to share what God had done in my life as I was worried about how others would see me. Yet I was reminded of an article I read about being a good steward of God not only in the area of gifting and resources but in our life story too. So, here is my story.

I came to know Christ during my university days, but I never knew what it meant to be a Christian or have a relationship with Him. God was just an entity that was always there in the background or someone I prayed to when I needed something.

Soon after my graduation, I went back home to Malaysia. At that time, I was a new believer, so my faith was not strong enough to stand firm on what I believe. Hence, I put all my energy and time on work as a fresh grad stepping into the real world. Soon work become my life and eventually assumed a central role in my life. I spent no time at all with my family, let alone in church. Things got worse when I was given more responsibilities with higher expectations. I picked up smoking and eventually become a heavy smoker to a point where I could not go more than 2-3 waking hrs without a cigarette before I would start to get the shakes and feel dizzy. This went on for 2 years, and soon the strain took its toll on my family and me, and God was no longer in the picture. My life was on a downward spiral. I was neither living a life that He has in store for me nor being a good example for my family.

In 2008, I decided to move back to Australia and start anew. One night as I was struggling with my withdrawal symptoms; I came clean before God and asked Him quietly to take away the addiction. To my surprise, I woke up the next day with no desire to smoke at all. Memories of what it felt like to smoke diminished which is near impossible in my case. I was amazed by how He completely got rid of something I could in no way do on my own. That was my first personal encounter with Him. God miraculously healed me. I have not had a cigarette since then.

Ever since then, I began to pursue a relationship with my Heavenly Father. Over the last 10 years, I have seen His faithfulness and how He has drawn me closer to Him through different seasons.

Ephesians 3:20, “God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.”
