Are you confident that the Lord hears your prayers, all the time? We know that God hears our prayers, but often it is our awareness of our past failures that makes us feel unworthy of praying. This is when the devil has gained a victory and soon we stop praying altogether.
We need to combat these spiritual attacks by claiming God’s promises concerning confession. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). When we confess our sins, we are agreeing with God concerning the sins in our lives as revealed through His word by the Holy Spirit. We verbally admit our shortcomings. Our heartfelt confession is important to God because it indicates we take our mistakes seriously.
Like undergoing a spiritual surgery, confession is not pleasant, and most probably painful because God wants to cleanse and heal us from the inside. Moreover, God desires to clear our conscience of faith-killing guilt so that we may open our hearts to truly believe that He will hear our prayers.
Let’s humble ourselves today and start praying with confidence.
Quick guide on confession
- Ask God to search our hearts for any unconfessed sin.
- Mentally examine your recent activities to discover possible areas of character/spiritual failure that need confession
- Confess specific sins, either against God or man
- Confess our needs for His guidance and help.
